Opportunity · Access · Impact

Turning inspiration into certified maritime careers across Africa.

Talented graduates complete maritime training every year, yet remain stranded without the sea-time required for certification. InspirAction builds the practical pathways — placements, scholarships and mentorship — that carry them from the classroom to the bridge.

Our Goal

$500,000

To fund sea-time placements, scholarships and certification support for underprivileged African cadets — with a deliberate focus on women in maritime.

Welcome

Inspire. Then act.

InspirAction is drawn from two words: Inspire and Action. To inspire is to ignite hope and belief in what is possible. Action is what turns that belief into real opportunity and measurable change.

Introduction

InspirAction Maritime Educational Fund is a non-profit organisation established in 2026 by three visionary women to address the growing gap between maritime education and career progression across Africa. The organisation works to remove financial, educational and industry-access barriers that prevent talented African maritime graduates from progressing into professional careers.

Background & Rationale

Families across the continent invest $15,000 to $20,000 in maritime education in the hope of a better future. Yet completing that education rarely guarantees certification: without mandatory sea-time, capable graduates wait years at home, and many abandon the sector entirely. The loss is not only personal — it is a missed opportunity for African participation in a global industry that needs skilled professionals.

Our Mission

“To overcome barriers to maritime certification by expanding training, sea-time opportunities and inclusive career access for African cadets, particularly women.”

Our Vision

“To become the leading African non-profit organisation enabling Africans to have equitable access to maritime education, certification and career advancement.”

Core Objectives

Five commitments that guide the Fund

01

Sea-Time Access

Facilitate onboard training placements through partnerships with shipping companies, offshore operators and maritime institutions.

02

Scholarships & Certification

Provide partial and full educational sponsorship, plus support for mandatory certification and training requirements.

03

Inclusion & Gender Equity

Champion female participation and support graduates from economically disadvantaged communities across the continent.

04

Industry Partnership

Convene shipping lines, academies, regulators and development partners around structured, long-term career pathways.

05

Mentorship & Readiness

Equip beneficiaries with mentorship, professional exposure and career development support for sustainable careers at sea.

Key Program Areas

Four pathways from training to certification

Each program tackles a specific barrier that keeps qualified African graduates out of licensed maritime work.

i

Sea-Time Placement Initiative

Our core pillar. We work with industry partners to secure the mandatory onboard experience cadets need for certification — the single biggest barrier between graduation and a licensed career.

ii

Maritime Education Support

Scholarships, financial assistance and certification support for deserving students, delivered with academies, philanthropic institutions and corporate sponsors.

iii

Women in Maritime Initiative

Advocacy, visibility and support systems that increase female representation and build confidence for women entering the industry.

iv

Career Development & Mentorship

Guidance, industry exposure and professional preparedness so beneficiaries transition successfully from training into the global workforce.

Women in Maritime

No aspiring professional left behind for lack of access.

This challenge disproportionately affects young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, women pursuing maritime careers, and graduates without access to industry networks or sponsorship. InspirAction advocates for increased female representation, builds confidence and support systems, and collaborates with stakeholders on policies that encourage inclusion.

  • Mentorship networks led by women already at sea
  • Visibility and advocacy across maritime institutions
  • Targeted sponsorship for female cadets awaiting sea-time

Voices from the Gap

Cadets stranded between education and employment

“
I finished my studies in 2022 and waited three years at home for a sea-time placement. My certificate was in reach the whole time — I just needed a ship.

“
My family spent close to $18,000 on my maritime education. Without onboard experience, none of it could become a licence or a salary.

“
I was one of four women in my cohort. Support and mentorship are what keep us in the industry after graduation.
